Longbow and Recurve
« on: August 26, 2012, 09:25:00 PM »
I occasionally read where archers profess their inability to master a longbow or a recurve. I shoot a 68" longbow and a 58" Bear Grizzly and on any given day can pick up either one and feel confident. Any others shoot both equally well?

After a bit of practice with either one, im good to go but my infatuation with the longbow always prevails.

I shoot either equally as well, right now I'm into the LB.

I have a caribow silver fox and a rer arroyo and shoot both equally. In my opinion. Two completely different grips and they both feel great in my hand.

I must confess my love for my Bamboo Longhunter. I bought the Bear off the net a few years ago and guilt makes me take it off the wall occasionally. I can't deny the advantage of using it from a treestand.

the titan and the omega I have full confidence in right now.  I would gladly take either to the woods.

I am accurate with either one.  I just grab whichever one "speaks" to me when I walk out the door.

Been shooting both for nearly 50 years, self-bows, too, for the past 20 or so.  I don't shoot the self-bows quite as well, but virtually no difference between the others -- about a half-dozen of each, different styles, i.e.,straight, mild r/d longbows and extreme r/d hybrids, different gripped and length recurves, etc. It's not rocket science.

I shoot 'em both interchangeably with good results... but misses are different, for want of a better term.  Good arrows are better and bad arrows are worse with my recurve.

I shoot only two bows, the recurve and longbow in my signature.  I seem to shoot each of them well, although I need to re-calibrate when I switch because my recurve setup is a lot faster.  I am extremely pleased with the shooting experiences I have with the both of them.

I own a D/H Howatt Coronado that I can really get some tight groups... BUT I recently bought a 66" inch JD Berry Argos LB and am really working on getting good with it.  Unfortunately, the long bow is much more challenging for me to get tight groups with.  I'm not sure why.  My approach is to keep working until I am really good with botn.

Absolutely! I have two long bows and four recurves. Can flip between them all and with a days practice would take any of them to the tree. Now that I have the arrow setups figured out for them all.
