prison ranch montana

Howdy Gang,
I am working in Deer Lodge this fall and am signed up to hunt at the prison ranch.  Its archery only and you can take up to 5 either sex either species deer.  I have done as much scouting as I can but they don't let you on there until opening day. My. Question  is who has hunted there and what was it like.  Looking forward to this fall!

Haven't hunted it, but its a lot of really open terrain.  Seems like it would be hard to get close, but that's no reason to not hunt there.  While coming out of the flints on a fishing trip I saw some enormous whitetail bucks.  They are there.

Gillie suit as there is not a lot of cover. Besides soon as the cool weather hits the extra wind break of a Gillie suit is appreciated.

Just a thought since I haven't hunted a place like that.

Would it be good to hunt behind a decoy like they do for pronghorn sometimes?

Could be.  There is quite a few timbered draws but lots of open country too.  Quite a few people around here have been using the"be the decoy" hats with success.
