Bow string deer drag
« on: September 10, 2012, 02:53:00 PM »
I've used a lot of different things to drag out deer but never a spare bow string. Has anyone done it and how did it work?

That sounds like an unnecessary risk.  I just pack a bit of nylon rope...

I would think that it would be awfully hard on your hands even if you are wearing leather gloves.  I use a nylon rope running through a hard rubber hose to make the grip easier if I use a rope.  Normally I use a plastic expedition toboggan that I got from REI.  It is much more sturdy than the kids toys and slides easily over rocks and branches.

I agree it would be hard on your hands, tie the other end off on a stick maybe.

You could use one in an emergency but I'd tie one end with a timber hitch to a 2' stout stick. It doen't take that much thought or preparation to carry a 6' length of nylon cord in your pocket for the purpose though.

I have the deer handle and love it but it adds a lot of weight and takes up a lot space in my haversack. I'm looking at this in an "ultralight" mind set.

I shoot mostly eating size small deer and put a stick thur their nose and drag them out to my 4 wheeler. Works great for an old guy.
