Fuller Plast finish peeling
« on: August 09, 2007, 09:47:00 PM »
Any answers to why fuller plast is peeling off riser? I used fuller plast for years and now I ran into this problem. The only things I could think of are wrong ratio of catalyst, fuller plast went bad,or sealing the oilly wood with CA glue not a good idea.Any help much appreciated.Frank

defiant... out of the things on your list I'd suspect the CA glue sealer.

In my experience with Fullerplast it's darn near fool proof. I just thin it down and shoot a couple sealer coats with it then go with the normal coats.

Never had the stuff get old (a gallon lasts me a verrrry long time), and I'm always careful with the hardener ratio.

Charlie I want to believe that also, but I sealed other woods with CA glue and never had a problem. The only other thing is if I made the mistake and added to much catalyst would that do it.Anyway you might be right,I guess I better start sanding and refinish this time eliminating the CA part. Thanks again Charlie,Frank  :banghead:

Frank... I'm only on my second gallon of Fullerplast so that may not qualify me as an expert.  ;)  (I've always used an airbrush...very economical)

Like I said, I've always been very careful with the ratio so don't know what to expect if you got too much hardener.

The refinishing will probably solve the problem... let me know.

I had problems with the Sherwin Williams waterwhite finish flaking once on a bow. I sprayed 4 bows that day and the only one that flaked was the one that had the wood sealed with CA? I know it isn't fullerplast but that may be your problem? Steve

Steve hi,thanks that settles it now I know it must be the CA.I think the glue seals oilly wood great, but just won't let any finish to stick.I have to learn my lesson,if it ain't broke don't fix it! Charlie I think the problem is solve, use fuller plast as its own sealer(thin it and spray as directed)What baffled me is my own bow with snakewood was sealed that way and its shows no sign of a problem.Oh well,I did like that CA for a sealer, but not anymore. Thanks again Frank
