seclusion 3D vs seclusion 3D open country
« on: September 11, 2012, 10:31:00 AM »
I'm looking for a new facemask.  cabelas carries one that looks like it fits the ticket, but only comes in "seclusion 3D" or "seclusion 3D open country".  Which one would you use? The "seclusion 3D" is a woodland pattern, but it looks a little dark to me...

Here's the link...

I prefer darker colored clothing for hunting white tails so I'd go with the Seclusion 3d.

Like most guys who have been at this awhile I've tried many of the latest greatest patterns .   None work well for everything.

I have noticed that if I've been sitting completely still in a tree stand and still been busted it was usually while wearing a lighter colored cloth.

I tried a set of ASAT one season in tree stands and kept consistantly getting busted.  Then I hung the suit up in the stand and stood back and looked at it from the ground.  I might as well have been wearing white.  It stood out like a sore thumb.

Bottom line is go with what matches your hunting environment.

By the way, the ASAT was fantastic out west hunting antelope.

I have that facemask (and the awesome mesh button down shirt) in the Open Country pattern, and I live GA (not exactly open country).  I prefer that pattern for the young pine woods that I turkey hunt in.  I have found that it blends perfectly with pine limbs, broomsedge, and the various shrubs that are scattered about.  It has lots of white in it, which my hunting friends point out when I am wearing it in the camp; however, not a single wary old gobbler has pointed it out yet.

I like the open country pattern.

I have the mesh shirt and pants; they are great for hot weather.

BAK, that is interesting.  I was only busted once last year in my tree wearing ASAT, and it was because the deer came before I was settled in and I was moving all over the place!

If you were in a black walnut or other very dark tree, I could see that being a problem though!

for warm weather tree stand hunting around here I beleive I'd just be as well served just wearing old grey work clothes. Well, I was wearing a pair of the old Redkap work pants I bought at the flea market for $2.50 when I killed my deer and coyote just recently. I just had my colors reversed on them days! I still killed regardless.

I killed the deer in an old grey pocket t-shirt and brown work pants.

Yup, it was a large dark tree with lots of dark background.  I should have taken a picture of how bright it stood out up there.
