A little carbon shaft help please.
« on: September 23, 2012, 11:19:00 PM »
I've tried this before and never got them to fly like I wanted so I am hoping someone can give me some help. I shoot a Samick Verna longbow I draw 27" and am shooting 47lbs at that length. Give me some info on what shaft how long to cut and head weight please.

Thanks
Tom

I'd try something that spined about .500 like a GT3555 and add point weight at full length until they looked good.  Once you've got that figured out you could play with trimming length and adding weight until you got a gpp you were happy with.

I have used the arrow dynamic's trad lite shafts cut to 29 1/4 inches, wrapped and with 3:5 inch left twist parabolic feathers, regular insert and 175 gr head out of a recurve at 48 lbs. and 58 lbs. Out of a long bow at 50 lbs all at my draw length of 27 inches. This arrow has group tuned and paper tuned out of both bows and at all three weights and is 520 gr complete. Because of the tapered shaft, bare shaft tuning is hard to achieve unless your release is perfect. Hope this helps you, Tom. Good luck.
