Here is the medium size doe I shot at about 10 yards. I was circling around a small mountain to come over the top in order to get the wind in my face. As I was coming down the SE side of the mountain, I jumped this doe out of her bed beside a sage bush. These mule deer are almost invisible in the sage. She acted strange because she really didn't want to run away. As she started to hesitatingly turn away from me and start down the mountain, I drew and shot. The arrow went in the left rib cage and exited on the right shoulder.
She took off, and not two seconds later, a coyote was on her tail chasing her down the mountain. I said to myself, that coyote is not getting my deer! I began to run full speed down the mountain chasing the coyote that was chasing my deer! After the 'yote had tackled her for the second time, I caught up and began to hiss like a mountain lion [or a house cat?]! When I got about 20 yards away, the coyote finally saw me, realized it wasn't his deer, and took off. It would have been interesting on video!
