glue in/on BH adapters?

hey guys, i'm looking for some, only made from steel and i want the insert part that goes into the arrow to be about 4" long.
does anyone make them? would be interested in some to fit goldtips and axis shafts.

I've got some brass ones. Haven't seen any steel ones, but I'm guessing that some 4" long will weigh 400 grains or more.

i'm looking at making some different buff arrows with lots of point weight.

I don't think anyone makes them.You could probably get a machinist to make what you want.I can tell you this,from a lot of experimenting,if you want front end weight,weight in front of the shaft has way more influence than weight extending back some distance behind the end of the shaft.

Test it yourself.If you want 100 grs more weight up front,put that much on a broadhead and find the balance point of the arrow.Now,instead of the weight on the broadhead,add the weight behind the insert.The further that weight extends behind the front of the shaft,the less affect it has.

If you thought you needed 100 grs extra weight on the broadhead,you may need as much as 200 grs behind the front of the arrow shaft to reach the same "tune".

I guess what I'm saying is,if you can achieve the weight you need,in the broadhead,it won't take as much.Either way,if you need a longer,heavier adapter,I think a machinist could make you what you want.

Tuffhead has some glue in "adapters" that take the place of an adapter and insert,in a variety of weights.You may have already seen them but if not,maybe you can find something there that would work?

I bet you could solder, braze, or epoxy  a piece of brass rod into one of the  brass adapter/inserts and get the weight where you wanted it. I haven't tested the strength of my brass adapters, so I don't know if they have the physical strength you're looking for. I do suspect, though, that something else is likely to fail before the adapter would.

jimB- my current arrows have about 250gr worth of weight tubes in them. how could i put that much weight into my point weight ontop of the 250gr that they already weigh? doesn't leave me with much choice but to have a long insert adapter to keep the same arrow weight without having weight tubes.

Ozy,one way is to use a 75 gr or more Woody Weight behind the glue on broadhead.That's assuming your broadhead is a glue-on.75 gr Woody Weights are the lightest.I can't remember what the heaviest is but it is heavy.I don't know what type of broadhead you like but one choice would be the 300 gr Tuffhead,steel adapter,100 gr insert and whatever weight Woody Weight would make up the difference.

I played around recently with an arrow,with extreme front end weight and wanting to use some existing broadheads but needed 90 grs more weight.I tried adding PDP weights behind the insert but found that 150 grs behind the insert did not equal 90 grs of point weight.Again,it is easily tested by checking the balance point.Those PDP weights are thin and the more you stack them,the longer they get and the further they are from the front of the shaft.

What I learned from this,and I guess it is an extreme example,is that it takes less weight on the point end to change things than weight added behind the insert.The further behind the front of the shaft you get,the less influence it will have and that means adding more and more weight.If you can do it on the point end,less weight is needed.

I hope I'm not confusing the issue.

and a  30 grain aluminum arrow footing

       630g point system--teamed with a carbon stiff enough to handle 630g up front should be pretty potent BUFF medicine!!the tuffheads are awsome heads--ive been totally impressed and will be
doing more testing -hopefully this weekend!!

There are some brass weights that screw into the back of the insert sold by black widow for the gold tip shafts. This makes a pretty solid hookup, not one piece. I tried the brass gluein one piece, but they do bend on impact. I don't use them anymore.

Ozy,regarding your 250 gr point,is that 250 grs including the adapter?

The Woody Weight would definitely get you as heavy as you would ever need to go but the long insert you talk about would add strength to the front of the shaft.I'm just sure nobody makes one at present.I would think that any good machinist could make up a solid steel adapter that would glue into the shaft.You would have to experiment with the length to get the weight exactly what you want.
