Book on Hill Bows ???
« on: September 28, 2012, 06:37:00 AM »
Is there a book written that covers the many interpretations of Hill Style longbows, seems we have more than a couple of bowyers that have made or are making bows in this style and I think it would be a great read.

Man that would be a sweet book !

I'd also add Jeff Challacombe , Jim Belcher ,Elburg, Rex Oakes , Charlie Lamb

A book covering the why's , wherefore's , building styles, shooting styles and hunting habits of these lads would be great bedtime reading

Dan Bertalan Traditional Bowyers Encyclopedia has cool info about bowyers.  Frank San Marco is profiled and others.

"Early Adventures with Howard Hill" - Don Carson - Raptor Archery.

I think it pretty well established that Don Carson was the first to build bows with and for Howard Hill in Florida during the late 1920s.  The only published material by one who experienced the early or beginning years with Hill.

You can purchase it from Raptor Archery who is a sponsor here.

Wow! With the increased popularity in Hill/Hill style bows today, that would be an instant best seller among archers and bowyers. I know I'd buy one.

that Don Carson book is perhaps my fave archery book ever .

In fact I was re read it last week .

Back when archery was more about adventure than fps and shooting at targets and hunting weren't so estranged  !
