Centaur w/Dark Matter vs. Wood Construction

Have personally not been comfortable with a physically lighter longbow in the past…Am still quite enamored by my own Dark Matter Triple Elite as submitted in a previous review.

What has been the perception of those who have owned Centaur’s of wood riser construction vs. those constructed with Dark Matter?

I think the dark matter feels like one tight,stiff,very strong,functional and muscular solid state unit when shot.Feels like all the energy goes right into the arrow and nothings wasted.Mine has tripple carbon limbs with XLT lamination.

In spite of the very dense riser material its still a pretty lightweight bow.You can sense the strength and stiffness of the riser when you shoot it.Its definatly perceptable to me.I think thats part of the difference between it and the wood risers IMO.The wood risers are superb as well ofcourse.

Well I have never shot one with the dark matter but would find it hard to improve on the wood riser. Don't get me wrong, I would love to try one but I love my Centaur. Best bow I have shot hands down for me. How much mass weight does the dark matter actually add to the bow?? Used to shoot heavier mass weight recurves but now seem to prefer the lighter long bows. Someday I hope to be able to give one of the dark matter bows a try.

I have had both... I like the wood better..  The Dark Matter is nice, but just sounds different than the wood.. Not loud or bad, but different.

In all honesty to me they shoot the same.. I do like the xlt lamination in either bow.. Just adds stability.

Scott, don't know if I'd be drawn to the Dark Matter. Started out as a recurve shooter and left them for the feather light longbow. For me less mass weight is better. Wouldn't trade my Centaur wood riser glass bows for anything else, true works of art by Jim.

Michael, I agree on the works of art that Jim builds, I do not foresee parting with mine any time in the near future!!! Always open to trying a diff bow but few fit near as well as a Centaur for me. My Hoots is a close second and has a little more mass. Defiantly diff style handles though. Friend that's not as much diff as I thought it would be but 6 oz's is quite a bit in a longbow. Still would love to try one either way.

I've always shot a heavy (relatively speaking) 3-piece td recurve. This year was my first of really switching to lighter 1-piece longbows. At first I had it in my head that I shot the heavier mass bows better. I had to shoot my Centaur Carbon Elite with a quiver and arrows to add enough mass for me to "feel" comfortable with it. As of late I've been shooting sans quiver and have found that it really makes no difference with POA/POI and my consistency is no different with it either.

Maybe it was all in my head, or just what I had gotten used to. I know that I really like this Centaur and would like to shoot one of the triple carbon bows next to my double carbon.
