Great Day in the Woods
« on: October 09, 2012, 09:47:00 PM »
As I was walking to my evening stand today I noticed some new sign. One of the biggest buck rubs I have ever seen was 75yds from my stand. I sat in the stand for about 2hrs and seen movement to my right. In front of me walking up the hill was the biggest buck Ive ever seen in the woods. The buck walked right past the rub I had noticed earlier and walked up the hill and out of my life "for now." I had a few does walk by later but offered no shot opportunities.
It was getting dark and I had called it a day so I lowered my bow to the ground and dropped the rope. When the rope hit the ground I see movement to my right and there stood a little 6 point about 10 yards to my right. It fed around the stand and was licking leaves and sides of trees I had sprayed with some vanilla. The buck then proceeds to lick the fletchings of my arrows in my quiver attached to my bow that is laying on the ground.
It was pitch black out and the buck wouldn't leave. I grabbed my mountain dew bottle that was in my pack up in the tree and dropped it on its head. The buck ran off again but worked its way back munching on acorns and leaves I had sprayed with the vanilla.
Was an awesome day in the woods. Some times its not about the kill, but just being outside.

Experiences like that are why I do this. The taking of the animal is just icing on the cake!

Congrats on a great day in the woods.

I will never forget today. I will also remember to never lower my bow until it is too dark to shoot. I wonder what the ol boy thought when that plastic mountain dew bottle hit his noggin.

Now that is a cool story.  Seeing nature is sometimes a crackup!  Next....I hope we hear of the big buck making his way past your stand.
