I really like this post I got a great wife an two great boys they are14 an 9 an as a good dad we always seem to know whats right. Its all about balance I am a avid hunter myself an I can detect when I cross the line.it is a built in instint much like the ones we have when hunting.well I say its built in,being married for 20 years, maybe it really comes from getting hit with a frying pan, kicked, slapped,an sleeping on the couch that I have just learned over the years(just kidding) we dont have a couch.great post take care ED

Outstanding post Izz!!!!!

Funny I read this today. I had planned to hunt with a buddy last night after work. My wife called me at work and wanted to go get some wings and a beer. We had a great evening. Hunting is an important PART of my life. My family IS my life.

Thanks for the reminder bud.

That's funny that I read this post the day after something happened to me. Yesterday was a day off for me, had not got to hunt much yet and the forecast was a cold frosty morning and cool all day. My 82 year old father-in-law was having his gall bladder removed and I went with my wife to take him to the hospital. When we loaded up in the car he said "why are you not hunting today".
I replyed " I've got a lot of time to hunt." Small sacrifice for big rewards.

Great post Izz.  I needed this reminder today.  Between working too much and trying to hunt as much as possible I've lost sight of what is important and that is my family.

I have one grow son and an almost grown daughter, two teenage boys and then four young ones to care for.  Being a father is a blessing and my priority in life.  Hunting and work needs to be put into perspective and I appreciate this reminder!

Seems this time of year my mind is a little like a bucks in rut, where are they, where did they go, where can I find them!  Switching my focus to the ones that are here at home and I think that will make the times in the woods that much more meaningful.

God bless you and your family,

You hit the nail right on the head Bro.

I read M R James book a while back, Worlds Best Bowhunters,(something like that), and was amazed at how much time all those guys spend away from their families. Not for me. I'm glad I spent all those beautiful Oct and Nov afternoons watching field hockey.

One of the many reasons I admire you, Izzy.
You will enjoy your hunts more because the little guy will care how you did.

Some of life's lessons are hard pills to swallow.

Thank you Izzy for helping to shine a light along a path we all sometimes find ourselves on, too caught up in ourselves and in our own desires to see the stuff of real importance.

Reality says everything is a choice and along with every choice there are consequences to that choice.

I can't agree more with you Izzy.  I too plan on hunting as often as possible.  Because of my schedule I'm able to get a lot of time off.  I do this with the intention of hunting.  Then when the season rolls around I realize my kids aren't getting smaller and my wife is not getting younger, no matter what she does for herself.  Someday I'll have the time, right now, hunting can wait.  It also helps make the time I spend in the woods more special as well.  Put family first men, and women!
