So a short while ago I posted for help with building a recurve case safe to travel with via plane.  This great guy  Kirk (bigfootbows.com) offered to send me a shipping box and thought sending an empty box is a shame so why not send me a bow to play with.....I'm  pretty certain he planned this out.  Lol
   So I get the bow today and it is a gorgeous leopard wood riser, with leopard veneer limbs, TD long bow, part of the flat liner series.  55# @ 28".  Right in the range I like, I only shoot recurves so far and was really wanting to try out a longbow, preferably take down for ease of travel. This is a combo of both with a recurve style riser and long bow limbs.  
   The sun was dropping so I quickly put the bow together and got outside to put a few round through her.  My first thoughts were that the riser is thinner than my current bows, but it feels good in the hand, the bow is very comfortable to hold. The grip is also high and my hand is close to the shelf, which is perfect for me.  I try to grip like G. Fred Asbell and get my hand as close to the shelf as possible and this bow is perfect for that.
    I walk to 15 yards and let off 3 shots and they hit  dead center on my taget.  So I walk out to 30 yards, about as far as I can in my yard shooting from corner to corner and fire 6 rounds and as you can see did petty good even with close to no light.  I was amazed at the trajectory of the arrows, they flew like a missile straight to the target. The draw was smooth with absolutely no hand shock after release.
   My initial thoughts are that this is a superb bow.  I was only able to shoot a few rounds as it got too dark to see the target, but I'm confident shooting in daylight will be even more of a pleasure. I'll write more  this weekend when I can shoot it in the daylight and really enjoy it!
     A quick note about the bowyer, Kirk is a really great guy, quite a character, and a true pleasure to deal with.  Thank you again Kirk for sharing this bow with me!!

     The one pieces are nice, but I personally prefer a bow I can breakdown for easier travelling.

Kirk is a sleeper...he comes off by his own volition as this eazy goin, down-home, country boy wood worker...but there is a lot going on between that boy's ears when it comes to bow building.

He's not been at this for decades, but he's chosen to invest heavy in learning by building and stressing varied designs till they give up the ghost...so that we benefit from a limb design that has a lot of research built in and testing his own and other designs to learn what works best and why.

I'm amazed at the lightening quickness of my 47# Sassy Lady I got from him end of summer. I had to go up a bit in arrow spine to harness all those limbs offer...

So, Bucksntrucks, how long you been married to have made a faux paux like that---tellin the Mrs!?
 

You can invest a lot in a lot of bows chasin the Holy Grail, or start out with one that has performance built in and go with it!

Thanks DocNock, good to hear some feedback from someone with one of his bows. Been married 13 years..you'd think I know better!  I think I'll use your Holy grail line, that may help.  Kirk was kind enough to let me hold on to this for a few weeks and I've been showing my wife other builders custom bows and the going rate of them so hopefully in a few weeks the price shock will fade.
   You're right about Kirk though,  for such an easy going guy he is quite ingenious and that translates into his bows.

Wow, that is an awesome looking bow. Sleeping on the couch for a week is worth a lifetime of shooting that bow:) Looks like you and the bow get along just fine.

Looking forward to seeing more pictures of this bow in the daylight. Love how longbows look when strung.

I shopped a long, long time before I made my choice, Brad.  

I did my research and what hooked me was all the research and hard data Kirk has on design testing he's done.  I shot a "borrowed" Bigfoot against a few of my own bows... and other lighter draw weight bows FELT heavier in draw, or Kirk's limbs flat out-shot even heavier draw bows making the arrows tuned to those heavier bows shoot observably weak! THAT...that made a  big impression on me! That boy flat knows how to design some performance into his limb designs!

I went with the Sasquatch and there is a long thread on my bow, also a triple build he did on 3 others and a bigfoot appreciation thread in the archives.

Some guys buy and sell used bows (or new) like they're trading recipes!     Shipping alone gets expensive w/ insurance... losing a few bucks on each deal mounts up over time.

I think finding a bow that surely fits you, your style of shooting, and having it "in hand" beats all other approaches, but that is just one view!

Regardless of your approach, with Christmas coming, you can expect to have to match whatever you spend on you for your hobby on your sweet thang...or the couch will be the least of your worries!

Honestly Brad... I just wanted to help you out with a wooden box for your trip.... And... it WAS a damn shame to send an empty box clear to Florida.... nothing more to it than that bro...

I need to get more of these bows out there for people to shoot, and tell other folks about it. This seemed like a good way to do it to me.

I'll get the pics up this weekend, with work hours and the sun setting so early, I can't get home before its dark.  I actually woke up early this morning so I would have time to shoot before I leave for work, but apparently the sun doesn't come up until 7:30.  That was  a big bummer!

LOL.... I love this part of archery season, Brad... when the sun comes up a wee bit later and we can actually AVOID getting up at 3am to shower and eat a bite to drive to hunt!

Soon DST will be gone here in the East and I'll be back up at 3:30am to go hunt... I hate that!
