hammerhead ?
« on: November 04, 2012, 11:33:00 AM »
A couple questions on AD hammerheads.  If I need to cut these arrows, which end should I cut? since the front are larger and there fore have more weight I was thinking of cutting from the back end.

Also does anyone know if larger nocks are available?  The ones that came with the shafts are pretty tight on my string.

Thanks
Mark

Cut them from the front.

You cut the point end.  There aren't different size nocks for the AD shafts but you can get the aluminum nock inserts and use glue on nocks.  I believe that 3Rivers sells them.

I prefer on my AD's is to use a G-nock bushing and then use large groove G-nocks,they have a .098 throat. With the nock adapters for glue-on nocks, they will use a 9/32" nock and most on them don't have a large enough nock groove. You can get the G-nock bushings at 3Rivers.

Why don't you just open up the nocks a little with some folded up sandpaper until they fit to your liking?

I use a 6" mill file on all of my nocks, ADs and everything else. When the file will pass through a nock easy, you can nock an arrow, bump the string lightly and the arrow will fall to the ground. Perfect...

Oh yeah, cut the front. I still have some 100 gr brass inserts for them. I shoot ADs out of a 64# RER. Without the brass inserts I get 628gr. That is plenty.

Cut from the front end. If you cut from the back end your nocks won't ever fit again.
