I have not made it hunting yet this year. Not because of the weather but because of work and trying to sell my house. If I don't make it out to chase deer there's always pigs to chase

You won't get anything staying home.  It won't be cold anytime soon and the rut is half over in north Texas.  I hunted in shorts last Saturday night but at least I was there.

Are you sure about that rut part?  It usually kicks off closer to Thanksgiving and again before Christmas in my experience. Just wondering if you're seeing something different this year.

I have been hunting mornings, and rarely in the afternoon. One of the benefits of hunting in walking distance of the house...

I hunt in south TX and if you wait for cold weather down there, you might not get to hunt at all! I have been but not gotten anything yet. I'll be headed back down there next week.

Rut is always around the last week of Oct. thru Nov. 10th.  Far south TX is later.  Just because you may not see it doesn't mean it isn't happening.  It's just happening at night.  If its hot the does don't move and the bucks don't chase.  Halloween night I was out with my daughter trich or treating and there is a buck breeding a doe in somebody's yard.

Interesting.  I have hunted very little this year, but hunted A LOT the last five years. We saw a lot of pre rut activity  about now, but the bucks went crazy the week before thanksgiving. It was unreal.  This was southeast of Abilene, though and we had a high density

I had two bucks chase a doe by me when I was headed to the stand this evening. I've been seeing it for weeks now.

I'm with you. Been hearing some stories of young bucks with their noses to the ground for a week or so now, wasn't able to make it out this last week myself. To tell the truth it was so dang warm and my primary places to hunt are more evening/staging areas that I'm kinda afraid to head in too early for fear of bumping out too many deer. That being said, I just got off work, and don't go back for eleven days : ) GAME ON!

Texas rut is severely segregated regionally. The first rut is already over at home (Dripping Springs/Johnson City). I wont even head to the South Texas ranch until after Christmas and Rut wont start until the second week of January. North West Texas leases of the past always began on Thanksgiving or thereabouts, as did the West Texas lease... It has been so long that I cant recall when my East Texas lease rut was...

In central Texas where I hunt, we were seeing a lot of pre-rut activity 3 weekends ago -- numerous bucks with their nose down and even some sparring, but this may have been triggered by the cold spell that hit that weekend.  The last two weekends -- which were much warmer -- we've had hardly any sightings due to the bright moon keeping them out most of the night, and when we do have sightings, it is no longer of the pre-rut kind.  We even saw a bachelor group of 3 nice-sized bucks wandering around together this past Sunday.  I hope things pick up soon -- there was a lot of activity the first two weekends of Oct, but lately it's been a snooze fest.

Bucks were chasing does and rutting last week in Gonzales county. Even with 85 degree days, the urge to breed still goes on.

Friend of mine rattled up a nice buck.  Seems early to me, but the deer are gonna do what they wanna do.
