« on: November 14, 2012, 11:04:00 AM »
Is there a difference in POC and Douglas fir shafts? Is there any good info for building woods shafts and what to do?  Thanks!

The search feature on this site is your friend.  You can answrr any and all of your questions by using it.  That being said, i prefer douglas fir over cedar for my own reasons.

There are differences but I've found them to be fairly negligible as long as the shafts are of good quality. Braveheartarchery.us is my place to go for surewoods.

To answer your question, yes, there is a difference between POC and douglas fir shafts. Durability, mass weight range, ease of straightening and to stay straight, grain run out, etc are in favor of douglas fir these days. You might want to get ahold of Surewood Shafts. They are a sponsor here. I would be glad to help also.

Yes.  Douglas fir of the same dimensions will average about 15 to 25% heavier than P.O. cedar.  Either material will have 10% to 20% weight differences anyway if you don't get them weight matched, so they can overlap.

Fir seems to be a bit more durable
