Fitting a bow to teenager
« on: November 15, 2012, 10:21:00 AM »
Hi All, I'm new here, looks a great site with great people. I've been a compound shooter for years, but, was recently bitten by the trad bug. I bought an old Fred Bear Kodiak Super 45# @ 28" until I can figure out what I really want (the Bear does okay, but very old and used).

I'm hoping I can get some input from you all regarding a bow for my daughter. She an easily pull a thirty#, and I don't think it would take her long to be ready for a 35#. She is short (60"), so I was wondering what length takedown recurve might fit her best. We live too far away from anything to do a test drive, so hoping for some input.

thanks in advance, WhiteBeart 121

Welcome to the site Daniel. Hope You enjoy Your time here.

You might look into the ILF set-ups. The shorter 13" risers and shorter limbs would make a short bow she could handle. Also You can change limbs as she grows. There are lots of limbs available at very reasonable prices.

If Your looking more for a 1 piece recurve or longbow check out Mad Dog bows by Mike McCreedy. He makes a quality bow at a great price.

We make a "Spike" 58" takedown recurve for exactly your needs.Best part is a custom recurve for young people for $250. This is not a money maker for us but our way of supporting traditional archery in youth. You can find this bow on our website.
