Osage for take down recurve limbs?
«
on:

I'm looking for input from people who have shot a take down recurve with osage limbs. How are they for smoothness, hand shock, stored energy, etc? Given the general characteristics of osage is this a good choice for limbs on a takedown recurve?
Thanks,
Doug

Can I assume that you are talking about a fiberglass bow??? the fiberglass is doing the work on a fiberglass bow the wood in the middle is a spacer that mostly looks pretty bamboo is lighter and will preform better. maple has been used for 50 years any hardwood will do
IMHO

I've got a pair of osage cored limbs for my Morrison and compared to the bamboo limbs I don't really notice much difference.
I think the design has more to do with shock, speed, and smoothness than the wood. At least with most recurves I've handled.

When Texas Longbows were in business they made a longbow out of osage. Most shot over 200 fps.I think the 8th Dwarf sold them in his catalog For several years.

NCRecurve, I built this Osage limb bow about 12 years ago. It is a great performer. The only way I know how to measure smooth is to force curve. (meaning draw inches versus weight increase.) Osage will hold up to any core lam. Bonus with Osage is it's the sleeping beauty..man ole man does it age well. I have built a dozen osage limb bows as well as maple and bamboo limb bows. They all shoot with in 2fps. I have not used carbon with osage. My personal TD recurve (62") shoots 60# @ 30" 540grs 204-208fps. i tiller 1/8-1/4" for a split finger release which dampens the handshock plus I build a heavy riser ( ebony/ osage) which gives it mass. So in short I find it is my favorite limb core. good luck

I have 2 BW's with Osage limbs. I think they are tops in terms of noise reduction and second only to bamboo in terms of speed.
