Biologists often suggest that hunters take piebalds, as opposed to protecting them.

Old laws written to protect the genetically inferior piebalds were based on misguided emotions. Many piebald protection laws have already been overturned. Piebalds are nothing to be desired in a wild deer herd.

Often, deer biologists see piebald concentrations as more of a warning sign of overpopulation, than anything else.

Plus, on the grill, they're all medium rare pink anyhow.

I've seen an albino

Had a piebald buck offer me a gimmie shot years ago. He had a big white bullseye right in the kill zone. Somewhere I also have a trail camera photo of a B&C albino buck. Albino deer are protected in Illinois.

I've seen six in two different places, missed one with bow, killed one with bow and one with gun.  But, I've not seen one since...22 years ago.

My wife shot one Monday, 90% +white 3 pt, last day of rifle season here in KY, on my farm, soybean field. She was more excited than if she had killed a monster buck.

I killed a small 5pt and missed a good 8pt or so close to Augusta, Ga. back in the 70's. Only two I've seen in the woods.

I see one often in NY off the NYS thruway.  She is striking.  If shes the same one seen year after year, she must be 7 years old by now.

I have never seen one in the woods, but I have seen two at various processors over the years.  I saw one that a guy killed near Eufaula, Alabama a dozen or so years ago that was a real oddball.  Besides being piebald it was also stunted in growth.  The legs were short and it had an exagerated Roman nose.  But there was nothing stunted about the 8 point rack on its head.

Really neat animals. I've been lucky enough to see 3 over the years. One that was all white from the shoulders and hips down with a white crown on top of his head. He had a 5 pt rack. Another in the same area sported the same white legs and hips, but no crown and was a doe. Best one I saw was in Ohio that had the big blotches and several smaller patches. Passed out of range twice on my hunt down there. Michigan recently changed the rules and now allows us to shot albino and white deer. I greee, they should not be protected, and I haven't seen any that were any easier to kill than "normal" deer.

I shot one years ago and wrote a story about it in TBM. It was 2 1/2 years old.

We had another piebald on a farm I hunt last year. I took a few pics of it as a button buck. We saw it during early doe season but not since. It was a forkhorn this year.
 
 
I took this picture of another mottled piebald during the rut this year. It looks like she has a dusting of snow on her back. Really cool animals.
