Wow what a turn out and hunt. We saw some where around 2 dozen rabbits and as many shots fired. Heck we even connected with one. It took two of use to bring down the mighty beast but we got it done. We jumped about 8 in the first half hour. Then on number 6 we got to shoot at rabbit I started off by just hitting high. The rabbit ran down the line offering 4 more shots but made it out ok.
We finished that push with no more shots so we had 10 rabbits up and 6 shots. Vince and his nieces had jumped on and got a shot off.
A few of us go around and try and push back to the group and just as we are getting close we here the shouts of one up head and pointing and some shots. we have one surrounded. You can tell where it is by the line of arrows be launched from the earthen dam. It runs into brush pile I move to shake the pile. A shot is fired from just across the pile from me. "Did I get it?" they yelled. "No there it goes". I see it coming my way and stops 10' from me I get a shot off and it is true. It flops, kicks for a few seconds then it up looking at me. Its back up I yell. And Tony says I got it his shot is true and I go in and get the rabbit. Both of us hit it solid and our first rabbit was down. I was using a homemade blunt 30-06 casing cut down and glued on. And Tony was using a field tip.
We went and push back through the second area and did not jump any. But we turned up the draw put blockers out and 3 more bunnies were seen and a half dozen more shots.
We cross the cut field to a grass strip with a plum thicket on it. I get my finial shot off as rabbit runs out and cuts across the field and I am just a bit high but he was at full speed. 2 more arrows thump the ground.
I think one more rabbit is seen. We push another strip and 4 or 5 more rabbits are seen. we opt for one more push and it started off nice. Enough cover to hold rabbits but clear enough for some shots and 2 shots were taken. But it quickly got thick and only 3 or 4 rabbits were seen.
We walked back the the trucks and made some shots at long distance at a flue flue that was shot off.
Then back at the house for some Elk roast, beans, potato salad, cheesy potatoes, and Pie (apple and peach).
so as you can see we had a great time good food and fellowship.
Here is the pick of the group and the guest of honor.
