turkey finally got cooked with pics
« on: December 07, 2012, 03:54:00 PM »
kinda,sorta...finally got my spring turkey back from the taxidermist.dont remember if i posted my hunt here so ill do a play by play..
got out early opening morning, got sat up in the blind and just let things happen early.birds were gobbling all around me right at sunrise,i counted 8 different gobblers singing.well i let the sun get up and i heard on the opposite ridge a gobbler striking a good tune,so i did a fly down and got an instant response.didnt hardly call and he stayed at the bottom of the ridge for what seemed like forever..well i finally couldnt take it anymore and let the diaphram call let go,well i could scream and he would gobble, this went on for about 15 mins.then he finally made his way up the ridge and he hung up about 45 yards from my pretty boy and penny.well i let him hear my best impression of a love sick hen and here comes another stud of a bird, well they get together wrap necks a few times then start my way very very slowly.well they decided they didnt like the big swollen up decoy..so they circle to the old logging road and i dont have a single widow open,so i think too myself well maybe i can still pull this off,so i start calling like no tommorrow, they gobble to anything i throw at them, all of this and their 15yds.away,well i get the window opened up about 3 inches and get turned around get on my knees and get ready for the shot.well they hang up at 15 yds.behind some vines and im wondering how long their gonna stick around.well they stay at full strut for what seems like forever and one of them takes 2 steps forward leaving me a 6 inch hole too shoot threw.now i have to shoot threw a small window in the blind and now a small openong in the vines, well i get the old black widow pma2 back to full draw pick a single feather just off the wing butt..i released and didnt relize i had a lumenok on my arrow, well it seemed like it was in slow motion i watched the highback bananna feathers i got from magnus hit the feather and wathed him lunge forward ang get about 3 foot off the ground and fly about 25 30 yds and crash down,i was estatic,it all came together too soon.we are only allowed 1 bird in the spring so it was over as fast as it began....magnus and i text alot dring turkey season the last couple of years so he got a play by play of the events..he will post some pics of the mount, thanks guys for giving me the knowledge, and confidence to hunt with my stick and string, this is my tenth bird with my recurve and hopefully ill add another in a few days....

"Turkey finally got cooked with pics"...

Hmmm...I'm thinking to myself... now THAT is going to leave a bad taste in the bird and ruin the pictures!

Beautiful taxidermy work... nice story too!
