help choosing arrow
« on: December 11, 2012, 09:53:00 AM »
Hey everyone! i hope you all had a great weekend. i was just outside shooting my bow before i get ready for work. it is a 58#@28 predator classic recurve and with this bow im drawing at 29. the end of my field tips on my rest. so maybe its 29.25 of a draw. at the moment i was shooting 2117 aluminum with 145 grain field tip cut to 29 inches. they are shooting weak. from 35 yards the tip is going straight but the knock is noticeably to the left by alot. regardless i want to shoot carbon express heritage at 30 inches to clear for broadheads. this will be my next arrow for christmas

my problem here is when i plug everything in the stu miller for the carbon express heritage 250 i have to use a 145 grain tip, standard insert to get the correct spine, BUT im only getting 8.2 GPP with a total weight of 506 grains with 3x5 feathers. i want to be ATLEAST 9GPP     :dunno:    im extremely frustrated as its difficult to find what i want.

all i want is something in the 9-10 GPP at 30inches, and the carbon shaft look like wood. if the look of the shaft is whats stumping me then im open for any suggestions.

Please help me in this headache im having haha. i feel like im     :deadhorse:

im open to ALL suggestions, anyone with a predator classic recurve please chime in also

Don't know CEs numbering system, but shoot the next highest spine if the 250s are going to be weak.

the 250 should be a .370 deflection and the 350 is a .320 deflection. idk if that might be a might to stiff. from a little bit ofreading i know the carbons run a bit underrated. maybe a bit weak is fine?

I shoot .340 Easton FMJ with about 200 grains up front and full length out of a similar weight recurve setup. If you wanna put more weight up front and keep a heavy arrow get the 350's and leave em full length.

yea i think the heritage 350 with about 200 up front does the trick... i also have FMJ but the dangerous game in 250 thats about 17 gpi total weight is 850 grains with a 250 graint tip and 75 grain tip insert and WOW lol it looks like it floats in the air hahaha... i think i will go with the heritage 350 and 200 up front. ill buy them and try it

you might try some of the Gold Tip blemished shafts from Big Jims in 55/75. I'm shooting the 55/75 out of my 66# @28" Wes Wallace recurve with 145gr heads. I have a 30" draw and shoot a 31" arrow and they fly like darts. I'm a little heavier than you but also longer.  I have some 350's too and they shoot fine with the same heads but I like the GT's better.

Forget the charts and get a Heritage 250 and a 350 shaft. Bareshaft at 15 yards or so beginning full length with 100 grain brass inserts and your 145 grain field points. See which one when cut to give you one inch or a bit more clearance past the back of your riser shoots very slightly weak. fletching will stiffen them just right. You can then paper-tune them at 6 feet and do any fine tuning by adjusting your nock height for any up/down correction and use brace height, lowering to adjust for tears indicating weak spine and increasing brace height for tears indicating stiff. You can also build up your strike plate to fine-tune slightly weak and if possible go to a very thin plate to correct stiff. You are drawing around around 62 pounds and will have total arrow weight around 600 to 630 grains.

I shoot the same bow only mine is 57#. I use an xx75,2219 29.5" with 145gr tips. The arrow is somewhat heavy but makes the bow quiet. Arrows fly very straight. I use the magnus stinger 145gr and they go through deer like a hot knife through butter. I have a 29" draw.
