I say 55/60 but bare shaft some shafts and see what they do because alot of it depends on how you shoot?

for wood arrows I like this guy

Getting arrows turned with matching spine is tougher than you would imagine...the guys who turn hundreds of shafts, or mass produce them bunch them up in groups of similar spine and sell them cheap.....I've been turning my own and checking spine as i go....it's a slow process and you come up with shafts that vary slightly in diameter, but at least they are all the same....now getting the same spine/same weight same length is even tougher to do.....

it's a great hobby to build your own woodies...but unless you have a lot of time on your hands, trying to build precision shafts made from wood is not very cost effective....It can be frustrating at times too.... The last batch i turned came out perfect....then i cut them too short to get the flex i needed...It's always something it seems..... I will be turning more in October.....

I had one of the guys here recommend adjusting the finished weight with extra dips of varnish, and that works well.....i got my hunting shafts within 5 grains doing that......Good luck to you...this building woodies takes the patience of Job sometimes....

One more thought......Trying to calculate the right spine arrow for a recurve or hybrid center shot bow is a bit easier than for a long bow that requires a perfect paradox arrow...the length of the arrow vs the tip weight and poundage of the bow can be calculated somehow  I'm sure, but the calc's are unknown to me....but what I've found is different kinds of wood used in shafts react differently when shot out of a bow. the hardwoods are slower to snap back than say fir or poplar...the length of your arrow makes a huge difference in like spined arrows too..there are just a lot of variables with wood shafts I'm finding out....

And here i thought i was going back to basics by building a long bow.....I'm going to have to take a class in aerospace engineering to just build wood arrows now...Kirk

foxfire archery has an outstanding spine chart for your bow set up....i wouldnt get too caught up in matching woodies by weight in 10-20 yds shooting conditions.... spine and true arrow flight is much more important....if your shooting longer shots 20-40 yds then arrow weight would definitely come into play more...

I shot Lees for a few years and I can tell ya Foxfire will make ya great arrow. If ya draw 29"s and want a 30" shaft than I can say without a doubt ya need 70-75# spine. You are getting about 52#s at your draw than add 10-15#s of spine for a high performance recurve and than 5-7#s more for the shaft being 30"s. Trust me I shot a Lee that was very close to the same specs. Shawn
