Brace Height
« on: December 22, 2012, 09:24:00 PM »
The 1959 Bear catalog calls for a height of between 6 1/2 and 7 1/2 in. for a 1959 grizzly. I got an AMO 62 string and strung bow - brace height at 5 1/2 in. measured from inside the grip below shelf. My draw length is 32 in. Bow shoots smooth and arrows fly straight. Should I shorten string to increase brace to recommended height or stay with what seems to work very nicely? I am thinking my longer draw is compensating for shorther brace as set up. Comments welcome. Thanx

Is it loud?, im not sure if the short brace will cause unknown shock on the limbs that may after a bit cause damage. But if thats not a factor and its smooth, silent and deadly= = shoot it.

Pretty much agree, the only way to know is to twist the string up some and test again.

You're probably getting some excess vibration in the limbs at the end of the shot.  Lacking a comparison, you probably don't notice it.  Shortening the string to the bow's sweet spot will eliminate it, and the bow will feel nicer at the shot.  However, to get to the lower end of the recommended range, you might need a new string.  It will involve a lot of twisting on your current string, maybe too much.

Thanks, twisted string to brace of 7". Bow still shoots smooth but has more zip and feels stronger!  Appreciate you comments
