Tip overlay...

What would I use te reglue the tip overlay to the limb of my longbow? The tip is not totally off....
I have all kind of glue, like gorilla glue hight impact "crazy glue", slow cure epoxy, titebond II and III, Gorilla glue(foaming kind) etc...
Thank you for any help.

Spilt it all the way off, roughen the surfaces and use slow epoxy.

what materials? fiberglass, phenolic, horn or wood? For fiberglass bows with Phenolic and fiberglass tips I have only used either Smooth on epoxy or Gorilla High impact "Super Glue"

I used the GG High Impact to glue the tips on this bow. materials in tips are  Black fiberglass, white fiberglass, 1/8" black phenolic,and 019 wood veneer on top. Like stumpkiller said rough up both glue surfaces, you don't want new glue on old glue, I use 80 grit on glass and phenolic before gluing

Check Big Jims site under "bow building", Bowyers CA glue.

It is also a good idea to wipe it down with some denatured alcohol before glueing because some woods are very oily

Before taking it all the way off I would sure try the CA glue.  I use Loctite 420, which is a very thin glue that wicks into tight spaces and holds like iron.  Taking the overlay off, sanding, and regluing with epoxy will also work, but it is very difficult to keep it lined up perfectly as you clamp it to dry.  If is slides even a tiny fraction you would then need to sand and refinish the tip.

Can you give us a photo? That would be helpful....

If it's just a hair line crack at this point, you might want to take Whips advise on the Loc Tite 420.... use masking tape on the edges so the glue doesn't run out of the crack and get down the limb. That thin CA can get away from you pretty easily.  Kirk

Cool, I thought that CA glue would work, so now I have to find some Lock Tite 420 in my neck of the wood, on Christmas eve...

Whip has fixed a ton of bows or more and he knows what he's talking about. I am used to working with new bows,you should see what the bow tips look like before they are shaped..it's an ugly rectangular blob of wood, glass and glue...after careful shaping and filing it becomes a bow tip.

Go get a hypodermic needle and fill it with loctite 420.  Then put the needle as deep in the crack as you can and filler up.  Clamp nice and snug and you'll be good to go.
