RADA Sharpener????

Anybody try the Rada wheelie sharpener on HH broadheads??If so how does it work?Works good on zwickey deltas.

I can't get Hill heads sharp with anything!

I have a cutlery set of steak knives, carving etc..from RADA. Great products and the RADA sharpner puts a razor edge of all knives.

I used it to touch up my Zwickys and Snuffers, brought them back to hair shaving sharpness. I tried it on my Schulz Hunter heads, similar to the HH heads but the ferrule a tad thinner, got them sharp but not razor sharp like KME got them.

I don't think Howard Hill ever got those heads shaving sharp. The large ferrule makes it tough to get the right angle with a file.

Dont use the HH heads but it works good on my Delta 4 blades.

The Ready Edge is the same principle.  What I found is that the Hill blade is pretty thick compared to most.  As such, it's cutting edge won't drop all the way down into the "V" of the device.  Eventually it will after many many strokes of clearing away the blade's edges.  When the "V" is finally reached, the cutting edge of the blade gets sharp real quickly.

I love them so much I became a RADA distributor & carry the knives & wheel sharpeners on our site.

I just received 6 Tigersharks from Dave at Simmons Sharks this week. I brought the RADA wheel out and spent all of 20 minutes bringing all 6 of them to shaving/hunt-ready sharpness, including a couple if tuskers, STOS & single bevel heads.

If you like to spend less time sharpening & devote more time to whatever, the RADA wheels are it!

I bought a 1/2 dozen HH broadheads at the end of August and tried everything I could think of and watched and read everything I could find.  Ferrel was just too big.  Then I remembered I had a new Rada wheel sharpener and tried it.  Eventually I got one side of one broadhead sharp.   After much time I couldn't repeat my success and gave up.  I found my answer and took my BH's to a professional knife sharpener and for $12 all 6 are razor sharp.  I think I may just buy another 1/2 dozen and take them to be sharpened.  A dozen sharp broadheads should get me thru a season or two.

I use a RADA on some of my cheap kitchen knives if I need a quick edge. I have found that if you will point the tip of the knife, or BH down at a angle as you pull it thru it will sharpen up faster. If you notice the RADA has a cut out in the plastic block that will allow this downward angle for you to use.

Yes, a RADA works ultra fast and it will create a razor sharp ragged edge but it is no where near as good as a truly beveled, polished razor sharp edge like you get with a KME sharpener. My ktichen knives have been sharpened both ways and a RADA edge breaks down really quick compared to a KME edge, but hey, the RADA can get that edge back in 10-20 strokes. Just depends on what you want to do or the quality of the knife you are working with. JMHO....

I like the RADA for a lot of my sharpening. If there's a clearance issue with the ferrel, 3Rivers sells a sharpener with small panels, that form a shallow "v", instead of wheels that may give you the clearance for HH broadheads. I've never tried it though.

The Rada does give you all the clearance you need.  As posted earlier the blades are thick.  It will get the job done eventually.  I just ran out of patience (and I am very patient) after many hours.  It was working but when I figured out I could just take it to a professional knive sharpener and have 6 heads sharpened for $12 that was a deal.  I wish HHA would redesign with a slightly smaller Ferrell.  That would make all the difference.  The head flies great and is a winner at a good price.  Just needs some tweaking  to make it easier to sharpen.
