13 GPP or over.... Lets hear your setups!
« on: January 08, 2013, 04:25:00 PM »
Hey guys. I always have been a 12 GPP arrow shooter from my bow set ups.

I'm finding the heavier I go, the better I seem to shoot.

Being an instinctive shooter, it may have something to do with being able to really track my trajectory, but I don't know. All I know is that my shooting style and bows really like heavy arrows. Right now I transitioned to 13.5 GPP arrows and the results are fantastic!

I have some new gold tip heavy hunters coming my way soon and I'm predicting them coming out to about 14.8 GPP. I'm excited to see how this additional jump works with my shooting.

Thought I'd ask what the set ups are for other tradgangers that are over 13 GPP arrow weight and what you like about it!

Matt

I use AD Hammerhead Trads 31" with 100gr brass inserts, 75gr steel adapters and 190gr Abowyer Javelina Broadheads. 3- 4" parabolic feathers. Drawn to 29" on all the bows in my signature. These arrows weigh about 750gr. It's about 13gpp using all the bows except the Dorado which is a little more gpp. The trajectory is pretty much the same for all bows, at least that's what my brain thinks. My bows are quieter now than when I used lighter arrows.

I am shooting AD Hammer Heads with 100 gr brass insert and a 265 gr BH. Add in the nock set up and fletch for a total of 765gr. I am shooting 55#@28" so I am at 13.9 GPP.
I will give thanks to the LORD because of his righteousness and will sing praise to the name of the LORD Most High.

Weather we admit it or not, we all gap shoot to some degree. For hunting ranges inside 40yds a heavy arrow will have a smaller gap in your sight picture.
Try this: shoot an approx. 9gpp arrow, draw and point it, the tip that is "point on" at a 20yd spot.
Then try the same with your heavy one. See how much closer you are!!
Those heavy shafts setups give approximately 35yd point on, depending on draw length, gives the sense of point and shoot! They are quite forgiving of form mishaps as well as a bit quieter out of the bow. I like how they don't get pushed around quite as much by un-forseen twigs in your shooting lane.
As long as they are tuned to the bow they will help you quite a bit.

My doug fir arrows finish up at about 630 gn which is 13 gns/" or so, outta' my 48# acs cx; perfect for hunting, and 3d.
I'm sure less weight would be ok too but why mess around with what works?   :archer2:

I shoot 650gr. maple shafts full length. I shoot a 200gr. ace super express @ 65lbs. They shoot good and hit hard! My gap is very little too!
