Different Profiles of Wood Bows to Built, why?
« on: August 20, 2007, 10:42:00 AM »
Hi all,

I would just like to get some comments feed back on the different profiles of wooden bows immediately after glued up i.e 1)straight long bow 2)R/D and 3) Reflex

Which of the above glued up profiles is the easiest to Tiller? why?

Thank you very much in advance.

Straight is always easier.  Reflex and especially R/D bows can really fool you in the early stages of tillering, in weight and tiller.

Look at this first push on the floor for a R/D bow:

The deflex at the handle really fools the eye.  It seems hinged there.  Plus early draw weight is really up there compared to a straight design.  It's much easier to come in under weight.

Straight reflex makes floor tillering much more difficult simply because of limb twist.  I always feel like I need to take a bunch of weight off of reflexed bows when it's not necessarily so.
Take a kid hunting!
