KOM vs KUIU
« on: January 12, 2013, 10:56:00 PM »
I would like to know which is warmer, more practible, durable, and over all why you  would choose Kuiu over KOM, I have every piece  of KOM, and I don't have any real negative comments other than the weight, and if I get it wet, or do you need both for different type hunting, if so I better go back to work, cause this could get pricey, please comment if you own both, not interested in the  well I never had  clothes A but Clothes B is hard to beat. Not trying to be a smarty paints just want to know from real experience..thanks for the feedback..Jerry

I have both: It depends on how you plan to use it.  KUIU when you will be moving, as in hunting the mountains.   KOM is warmer, but as you mentioned much heavier. If you hunt mountains Sitka has a better selection but KUIU, in my opinion is a little better and is more economical (diplomatic way of saying it costs less).  I Like KOM for treestand hunting but prefer Gray Wolf for that type of hunting.

They are both good, just designed to fill a different niche/market.
The broadhead used, regardless of how sharp, is nowhere as important as being able to place it in the correct spot.

Walt nailed it.

I would simply add that the KUIU clothing is likely going to be a more versatile choice in terms of the temperature ranges you can wear it in and still be comfortable. A likely majority of users consider KOM to be a colder weather choice. KUIU would be usable at temps from 80F down to the teens...maybe lower for some.

I'll second what's already been said also, I have a full KUIU set up and quiet honestly never wear it when hunting deer from treestands in PA, I find the shell and camo pattern not that useful.  I do wear the wool baselayers however and wouldn't give up my spindrift jacket for anything.  Out west hunting moose it was great but back home in a stand I grab the KOM.
