There is a very good reason that fire building skills are an important part of survival classes.

Things never seem bad when a fire is burning.

Creig,
WOW! I really got a rush when I saw your pictures of Howard, he would be pleased to know that you put them on this site. Thanx brought a tear to my eye and warmth to my heart!

It doesn't matter to me whether it is in my old Fisher woodstove in the cellar or in the fire ring out back, there is just something about a campfire. Thanks to all for adding in.

  Frank(aka fmscan),
Howard was a one of a kind guy. He was the whole reason us Pa guys got to know you NY guys and I am really glad we did.

I hope to shoot some arrows with him again someday. Take care buddy.

                       Good Shooting,
                                  Craig

One of my best times elk hunting. My girlfriend was visiting me in Colorado for 2 weeks and camped with me at 11,500 feet. We had mule deer stroll through camp twice and had fun watching whiskey jacks steal the dog food.

Back at my Michigan deer camp, man I sure missed home...

I run a wood fired pizza restaurant and it makes it so hard to not be mesmerized by the fire. I never get sick of watching the flames and find myself day dreaming of being on the mountain chasing elk and deer way too often. A good fire can always solve the world’s problems IMO.

Camp fires are big medicine.Besides the benefits that are visible like cooking and keeping warm and so on, they also offer supernatural gifts. Things you can't see or explain. Some things just are. Watch others stare into the fire while someone is telling a story. They have a sort of deeper attention. Moods are better. How does the camp fire make you feel? I think a camp (hunting or fishing or hiking) without a campfire is lacking.

The smell of a campfire/wood fire is one of life's simple pleasures.    :campfire:

Thanks again Craig for the pics of Howard, reminds me of him singing "oh shenandoah" and drinking his red wine at warriors mart a few years back.

Happened to think of this one that I posted on the TBOF facebook page a little while ago.  Mark Baker playing around the campfire while Ronnie Weatherman looks on.

Here's a couple from a few years back.  First two are during an Alaskan float trip...Bob and Walt Francis, and Dale Teachout were the characters around the smoke....

Last one has Monty Browning cooking up backstraps from my son Kory's buck he killed, that evening.

Dang photobucket...I resized these things using the "old" version.  Still won't work for me.  I don't get it....worked for years before.
