Anyone Heard of a Steve Martin Bow?
« on: January 24, 2013, 01:48:00 PM »
Someone came in today with an old longbow made by Steve Martin. It was 66" in length and 52# at 26" It was made from one piece of wood and had tips of what look like bear claw. Also, the guy who brought it in said that some old fellow (now deceased) was familiar with the bow and said that the tips were indeed bear claw and that the bowyer was from Maine. I couldn't identify the wood. It wasn't lemon wood, nor Yew, and it didn't seem quite like hickory either.

If you know anything about this bow, I would appreciate it if you care to share.

Steve Martin from Kentucky made some bows that were laminated osage with and without fiberglass.  Steve was well known and I'm sure others can give you more information.  The bow I had was will made.

My name is Steve Martin...seriously. But I didn't make the bow...which is a good thing.

Steve Martin from Kentucky probably my buddy had one of his bows 15-20 years ago and we got some osage billets from him. I don't have any contact info.

Steve Martin (from KY) built several nice "all wood" laminated bows. I don't think he's building many today.
