Wood arrow equal
« on: February 04, 2013, 07:29:00 PM »
I was wondering what an approximate wood spine would compare to the following

Gt3555

30 in BOP

145 grain field tip standard insert

Would a 11/32 wood shaft diameter matter compared to my Gpld Tip

Want to try some cedars out of 45 lb recurve cut to center

The GT paper tune nicely above specs

Thnks

Out of your RER? 55-60 would be my guess, I need to tune some 55-60 to a Predator with 45 lb limbs but have not yet. Sure it's correct though, you'll be weak at 55 lbs and perfect about 60 with 145's. 500 spine is 52 lb spine

.500 spine in carbon(measured on 28" centers) converts to 63# in wood(measured on 26" centers).30" arrow +10# 145gr tip +5# you should use 60-65 wood spine would be my guess. If using a high performance string add another 5# of spine.

Assuming your draw length is 28"..?...I think Shedrock is right on the money. I'd go with 65/70's.

I've been working the other way around: converting wood into carbon. I wanted to achieve the same GPP's, FOC and Dynamic Spine for my carbons as I had for my woodies which are tuned to perfection. I putted the numbers form my woodies into Stu Millers Dynamic spine calculator and experimented virtually with different carbon shafts and configurations till it was the same.
Bought the shats and made them like that.

Stu was almost right on the money, just some adjusting for the FOC.
So I guess that could work for you to. It should give you at least a great starting point. Buy some different spine values for testing, one above and one under and you'll be good.

But I think Prairie drifter nailed it already, he made the right calculations. Important to remember: the proof is always in eating the pudding!   :)
It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that string! [/i]

If you plug your GT numbers into Stu's calculator the equalivant wood arrow will be about 67#.
