arrow combo for hoyt buffalo?
« on: February 08, 2013, 12:01:00 PM »
I just received a hoyt buffalo on a trade and I'm new to past center cut risers. It's 50@28 which is my draw, and I'm curious as to what arrow combinations those that have buffalos with similar weight and draw length shoot in theirs. I can't seem to get my arrows to stop slapping the side of my shelf and my feather even scraped my hand a couple times.

Thanks

Gene, I just received a hoyt dorado on trade.  50 lbs @ 28 as well.  I put a trimmed down Bear Weather rest on mine so I can shoot off a rest and it also gives me some added thickness to get back to center.  I've got multiple layers of felt on the rest to build out.  I'm shooting 2216's with 250 gr points and they are flying very well.  There is a lot of room for adjustment with these so you probably already have arrows that will work if you want to spend the time experimenting.

They supposedly are cut 3/16" past center but when you put an arrow on the shelf with the factory supplied strike plate the left side of the string lines up with the right side of the arrow which is what you want for a right handed shooter. I've never had an issue with the shelf being too narrow or arrows falling off of it either or hitting my hand with feathers. Get perfect arrow flight.

I shoot GT3555 out of my 50# Buffalo, 29" with 50 gr brass inserts and 145 gr tips.

It hits your hand, cause thats one of the issues with this bows grip. Your hand is forced up into the throat and nothing stops your knuckle from getting up along the shelf. The cure is to shoot a higher then normal knock point. The buff is built with a very narrow shelf, there is no building out the strike plate unless you cant the bow a lot. I shoot the beeman mfx classics, which is a skinny carbon. I use 400spine full length with 100gr insert and 200gr tips. Can I shoot 500spine shafts with same tips, sure, but they dont fly well until the feathers do thier part. Only the 400spine would bare shaft for me. I shoot 3 under and even tiller. I mentioned the skinny carbons, cause I also can shoot full length 2314 aluminum shafts with 145gr tips very nicely. Obviously the larger the diameter, the further it moves the center of the arrow outward. In my opinion that bow needs a wider shelf.

I'm shooting black GT expedition hunter 55/75's and 200 up front and they seem to shoot pretty good and go where I look, but it sounds like the arrow taps the riser as it comes off the string. I tried raising and lowering nock point, but maybe I didn't raise it high enough.

If my nock isnt high enough, I get outside wear on the shelf.

You might try raising you brace height a little.
