Question about string that came on my new bow.

Okay update. I spoke with Vikki of Robertson Stykbow and she said the string that came with my bow is fast flight. I assumed it was the D97 because it is the standard string and what they suggest for their bows. It appears the person making the strings is making fast flight currently. I guess this may be the reason the brace height will not move. I did finally get the string down to 7 1/4" brace height but it will not come down anymore at the current string length.

My question now, is will the D97 be much different from the fast flight with regards to the stretching of the string. I have mostly shot the B50 dacron strings but have shot the others as well. What is a good string material that allows some stretch but performs well?

On modern string materials...  I'd waste your time worrying about more important things than the difference in stretch between D97 and Fastflite.

Like which is hotter...  French maids, or schoolgirls?

Too many variables to consider for a "right" answer.  

Generally speaking, if you follow the manufacturer specs. (or fairly close) for strand count there's little difference in the rate of stretch/creep.  Fewer strands generally allow more stretch/creep.

More shooting, higher draw weights, higher temps, etc. also will give you more creep.

Thanks, I guess I left out some info here. The suggested braces height for my Primal Styk is 6 3/4"-7" and the lowest I can go with this string is 7 1/4". This is why I am looking into a string that will allow me to acheive the suggested brace height. Bow shoots well but I have no idea if the setup might be slightly better at the lower brace height.

How much has it been shot?  Most strings will settle in a bit when shot 100-200 times.

If this one won't, I'd ask for a new string since the one that came with it won't get you into spec.

I don't have anywhere near 100-200 arrows through the bow. I have about 20 arrows total so far. The bow came and the rains started. Thanks

Okay, well with the bow strung and when I measure on the belly side of the bow the string is 62" where it goes into the nock. I have a 66" bow.

Yes several times after shooting a few arrows and leaving it strung. It has now been strung for almost 2 days, and the brace height still remains at 7 1/4". It was very close to 8" when I first put a string on the bow.

As Stumpkiller said, you need a different string the correct length, not a string that will stretch more. Look at the string to see how many twists are in it.  You can go down to about one twist per inch.  If that won't get the length you want, will need to get a longer string.  I would think the Robertson's would exchange it for you.

With low stretch strings, it's much more important for the string maker to hit the correct length because the skinnier high performance strings don't move much per twist, i.e., they require a lot of twists for a small gain or loss in string length.  Good luck.

If you bought this bow directly from Robertson they should send you a proper string.  Looks like the one you have is too short.  You're not gonna get it to stretch enough or untwist enough to get to 6.75-7".  And you shouldn't have to. I'm sure they will do you right if you ask for another string.

The string was the only thing I didnt like about my Robertsons. They came with a big ol' FF, like 18 strand, I switched it with a thinner, 8125 I think, and liked that a lot better. I didnt know they switched to D97.

Yep they now suggest it with their bows. I spoke to Vikki and she said they can switch the string but in formed me the string that came with my bow is in fact a FF string. I asked about the D97 but is appears that the string maker is currently only making the FF. She did not have a D97 in stock. I may just get a string made.

SC:  There's very little difference between brand name Fast Flite and D-97.  Their stretch or lack thereof is about the same.  A string of the right length in either material will work just fine, though you might develop a preference for one or the other.

Thanks. I guess most of my experience has been with Dacron flemish twist strings.

Sounds like you may need a 63 inch string.
If you buy one I would try a D-10 or ultra cam or something similar in an 8-10 strand with built up loops.

You may be able to get that string to lengthen a bit more.try waxing it well and then taking a piece of leather in a quare shape like 3x3 inches and running it up and down the string fast to creat friction and heat.Just dont overdue it and burn the string fibers.I think it will stretch a bit more and lower the brace height some.

I got some spare 63 inch long strings.I could send you one if you like to try one out
