Need help with tuning please help
« on: February 15, 2013, 07:25:00 PM »
I have been tuning my own bows for a while now and really like the fact that its all me. So here is my problem the arrow keeps hitting high at any range not alot but about 3or 4"s . I went to Rick Weltch's school he tought me alot and I did listen. I put a softer pap on the shelf and I moved my knocking point up and down trying to fix this but nothing is really helping. The arrows really group well but I cant get them to hit the spot. From 5yds to 40 yds they all just hit a little high. I'm stuck and cant seem to figer out what I am doing wrong. I shoot 3 under if that makes a difference.  Mike

Where does your followthrough end up?  Your drawing hand should end up by your ear, with your fingers possibly touching your shoulder. If your drawing hand is ending up lower than that, you could be pulling down slightly when you release the arrow, lowering the nock end of the arrow and causing it to leave the bow at a slight upward angle. Try holding your drawing elbow a little higher, so it feels like you're pulling back at a slightly upward angle.  Actually, you'll be pulling straight back, but it might feel like an upward pull at first if you're used to the feel of a downward pull.

Otherwise, if you're happy with your form, I know Rick is a great believer in observing your sight picture. Just observe whatever sight picture makes the arrow go high at 25 yards and make that your 30 yard sight picture instead.

Thats what I was forgetting to do. The elbow thing. I dont shot wheeled bows any more but I just opened up a small archery shop to work on bows and archery stuff. I was working on a bow for a freind and drawing it a lot to look at stuff. I know I draw a wheeled bow alot deferent than a trad bow. I may have put the 2 draws together and messed up my form.
