February Friday Night Fun
« on: February 24, 2013, 08:33:00 AM »
Well the time has come for Februarys Friday night Fun Shoot and it was a blast as usual.  Tons of food, a fantastic showing this month and I was a little worried because Thursday we were hit with one heck of a winter storm, but IDOT, MODOT and mother nature helped us out and got the roads cleared.

There was Oklahoma sow pulled pork, some Illinois deer chili, clam chowder from I don't know where but delicious none the less, crackers, coffee and enough cookies to feed santa for 20 years.  Im going to guess there was maybe 35 shooters, ( i said 40-45 to someone else, but I'm thinking it was closer to 35 now) but Im not positive.  And also Jack, Robert, Monty and the rest of the crew at Town Hall Archery did just a fantastic job as setting this shoot up again. I can not say thank you enough.  There are attendance prizes, and then carved wooden plaques for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in Longbow, Recurve and Womens division.

I want to apologize this month because due to storm and other things going on I was late running out the door and left my camera at home, but I did snap off a few pics with my phone. Next month I plan on a better pictorial.

Ok now a little back story before I get to the pictures.  Last month I had a dismal showing at the shoot and, well I sucked it up pretty good.  I was trying some new things out and it proved to me to stick with what I know how to do.

This month I was feeling better about my shooting and as I draw back at the indoor range I notice something off about my 1916....Right at the base of the insert it is bent over pretty good.  No problem I say to my self, I have 5 more arrows I brought..  Yep, 5 out of 6 arrows are bent in the same spot,  I think it was from shooting into a frozen bag target a couple days previous to the shoot that bent them up, because last weekend they were straight and flying true.  So here I am with no arrows to shoot in the tourney, BUT the 1916s could still fly just not very good.  Oh well these are fun shoots so I decide to shoot them anyway.

My good buddy Charly Mundy sees whats going on and lets me shoot one of his CXL 150s real quick to see if it will fly , and i had about 20 seconds to get to the line for the shoot as I hurriedly sling an arrow down range on the practice butts, Looks good enough to me.  I run down the range grab Charlies arrow and get over to lane 4.  First two shots...10 on the Javelina, then a 10 on the deer.  MMMMMM.... i am liking these arrows.  (until I found out the cost  :(   )

A small collection of sticks that showed up for for the fun.

Everyone waiting for the attendance prizes and the the awards.

My buddy Charlie getting his 3rd Place longbow plaque

Kurt (bigstriper on TG) getting his 1st place trophy (longbow)as he does every month.    Watch out Kurt Im a coming LOL

And I thru good luck and great friends letting me borrow some arrows came in 2nd in the Longbow division.  BUT since I got second with Charlies arrows he would not take them back as they were cursed and he did not want to keep his own arrows that beat him LOL, LOL.  Charlie as a lot in this community are fantastic people, and he gave those three arrows to me after the shoot. So THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH.
