Can I shoot wood arrows?
« on: February 27, 2013, 03:18:00 PM »
I'm shooting a River Runner drawing 70#@31.  Does someone make a 32 BOP wood arrow that would give me around 10 gpp?

I am going to make some assumptions...so correct me if wrong:

1- I assume you are not new to recurves and know what your actual draw length is on that bow for a typical stance.  Reason I ask is when I shot compound I was 31.5 inches...and thought it would transfer to recurve...it doesnt...I was a full inch shorter in the recurve due to shooting stance and draw style.

2- 3 Rivers only goes out to 31.25 inches on their shafts in 75-80.  I would think if you truly need a 32 inch BOP arrow which is a 33 inch shaft to start on average...you will need to go custom.  I would call Rose City, Hildebrand or one of the custom arrow builders here and see about custom lengths which will likely cost more.

Good luck....

Steve at Surewood Shafts may be able to help. They're great to deal with. Worth a call for sure.

Good luck.

Brock,

Your assumption is correct that is my draw length with this bow.  I'm shooting Arrow Dynamics Heavy Hammerheads right now, but was interested in trying wood.

The longest shaft that we make is 32" and with a 1" point taper you have a 31" BOP.  We can do a shorter point taper by putting a stop on our tapering board to increase the BOP by 1/2", giving you 31.5" BOP if that helps.  Thanks Steve

dave,

you might be able to get what you want with footed shafts....just have them put a longer footing on the fore end.  That or special order some shafts straight from Rose City cut at 33 inches is another option...or even try Alleghany Mountain Arrow Woods...I used to get some nice Doug Fir and Ash from them.
