Sore finger "to the bone!!!"
«
on:

I like to shoot at least 50 to 100 times a day if possible. One bow I have has a thick d97 string the other has an 8 Strand fast flight. No trouble with the d97 and pain but after About 20 shots with the thin ff string the inside of my ring finger become so sore it feels like the bone is bruised. I know I'll lose performance but really considering s thicker d97 for this bow also. Thoughts and opinions appreciated! Anyone else ever had this problem? Even tried a thicker w.cat canyon glove.

Those thin strings really do dig in the hands. I like 14-16 strand ff myself, or go to a glove with more protection. The black widow stick tight glove solved ALL finger soreness for me.

You can bulid up the serving to match the d97 string and you will have the exact same thickness and feel

+1 on the serving. I routinely double serve all of my 6 & 8 strand strings. It takes a little experimentation to determine what thickness of serving to use. If you use two thicknesses, use the smaller diameter on the bottom.

Your probably holding your string elbow up too high, try lowering it to the same height as your bow hand, just a guess.

The number of strands does not have to matter, like others said make the serving fit your needs. Pad your tab or shooting glove.........icing your fingers will help too. If you are using a glove switching to a tab may help too.

Had the same problem, and ended up developing a callous on my ring finger that made shooting quite painful for quite some time. Went to a thicker string that solved the problem, but wish I'd thought of building up the serving. Clever... I'm only a recent reader of these forums (didn't know there were that many people interested in bow shooting (-: ) and I'm stunned at how much valuable information there is in here. Great resource.

Thanks for all of your comments and suggestions. Going to Try and build my serving up. That 8 strand ff belongs to my thunder child. Not being able to shoot it regular would be unacceptable for me!! Thanks again, Mercerkystick

I know this brands me a wimp, but I had sore fingers even with a B-50 string. Changed gloves to one with cordovan fingers and my 8-strand SBD strings are comfortable. I seem to get a cleaner release too.

A sore finger or fingers is most of the time the result of a not so good form. I can shoot an 6 strand SBD string with the SBD serving all day long. And my fingers are very fast sore because I suffer from MS, but no probs here.
I had it for a while, worked on my from and it went away. Never knew exactly what it was.

If my ring finger is too sore then it is bad form as I am cocking my elbow up and putting more torque on the string with ring finger instead of nearly even with all three. Some work at keeping back of drawing hand flat and even pressure and a deeper hook on string usually helps. That being said the thinner FF strings usually are tougher on me than a B50. The D97 is my favorite low stretch string...for all around characteristics.
