This little oxymoron has kinda changed my opinion
« on: March 10, 2013, 03:35:00 PM »
Short longbows....what an oxymoron, longbows should be just that, long, but after spending some time with my 62" N.M Whisper, my opinion has changed just a bit. After some tuning and set up this short longbow performs very well, maybe good enough for turkey season.
Ill always love and hold my long, longbows in high esteem, but ya know, this little oxymoron aint half bad.
Anyone else shortened up and liked it?

I hunted for 5 years with a 66" Robertson Mystical and killed a deer 5 years in a row with it. Somehow I got myself talked into a shorter "longbow" and ended up grabbing a 60" Kohannah Fury off the rack at K-zoo and shooting it a few times. It shot so good for me I slapped the cash down for it right there. Nice little bow that I hunted with for a few seasons without much luck. Back to the 50's style recurves for me now, though.

I'm still looking for a 50" tip to tip "longbow".  Found a few at 52" and 54", but I'm after that elusive 50" bow.  Anybody out there know someone willing to make one?  I have asked a few bowyers, and nobody wants to tackle it so far.  Looking for a riser that's 3/16" past center and 50# @ 28".

I love my "short" 56", 58", and 60" longbows. I do want a 62" next to try.

Been shooting a 58" Great Northern Lil Creep for a few months, and am impressed.  Got it dialed in with my first set of carbons after decades of woodies, and it's a qquiet, easy to shoot combo.

My "short longbow" is 50"s tip to tip and 52#s@28"s which works out to about 50#s at my 27" draw. Shoots great and as long as I do my part it does it's work very admirably! You need to get used to the "why are you shooting a kids bow"? Not much is said afterwards when it spits that arrow down range with big bow authority.

I shoot a 56" Pronghorn one piece, 58@28. This thing draws like butter and shoots exactly where you are looking. It is the ultimate ground blind bow. I can leave it alone for six months at a time and pick it up after intense recurve practice and within a day--MONEY!

Have owned 58" to 68" and would likely settle on 64" as a "best average" for my 28" draw, all things considered for hunting.

Mike,

I've got a 50" Rodney Wright Buffalo Stick, 49@28.  I don't know how it's cut.

I have a 54" Shrew classic hunter and a 58" Shrew samurai that are my new favorites. Been shooting 62" bows before that and really like the maneuverability with the shorter bows especially on the stand.

I went from a 68" 67# Robertson Mystical, to a 66" 63# Kohanna, to a 62" 54# Robertson Hybrid Quickstick. The shorter, lighter Quickstick way out performs the other bows.It shoots harder, faster, with a lot less hand shock. It's also a very quite bow that's much easier to shoot because of the lower poundage. IMHO it's a much improved design. No more "long" long bows for me!The craftsmanship is also excellent.

Like mine 56". On the list for another. Thinking it may be a "56 or who knows, maybe 54". God bless.

I thought 62-64" was a short longbow. Shows how much I know. I tried a 60" and decided I like em a little longer.
