Just watching my local news, and they reported that the City of Tuscaloosa built a new Archery Park.  From the photos I saw it was very nice,  with graduated targets out to at least 40 yards (thats what I could see in the video).

Any how, also had some raised platforms to shoot from.  Looked like a really nice set up.  Would like to see more of these.

Wish it were a bit closer to me, but for anyone in or near Tuscaloosa it may be worth a visit.  Anyone else have one in/near your area?

That's good to hear, Lamey.  I understand that South Carolina is re-introducing archery in their public schools.

We have two nice ones here around .st. Louis. One in forest park, and another in Highland ,IL. We also have a open to the public 3D range at JB Barracks veterans cemetery and also another in Creve coure up in the Hills. They are all about 40-80 min from my house but close enough to go to when the weather is nice enough for the kids.

The report also said there were 9 Archery Parks in Alabama,  will have to find the locations.

That is a great idea.  Help those living in the city with a place to shoot and maybe get a few
"city folk" interested that otherwise wouldn't know about archery.

We have several large parks in Tallahassee where they could do this.  I mean we have a local club with a nice range already.  But public would be so cool.  I think they'd have to get insured for it and be willing to hire a range master or two to make sure the 'silly' types who might inevitably show up don't shoot someone by accident.  Great idea that I've often daydreamed about while at the park here.  I'm hopeful.  We certainly have enough wheelie bow hunters around here to help push for it.

I helped establish one in the town I was living in in MN about 10 years or so ago.  If you have the space, the cost is realatively low.  Cities already have insurance that covers the liability portion.

Local archers built it, city maintains it still.  Biggest problem centered on compound and crossbow guys wanting to stand at 20 yards and burn holes through the celsor bales.

We had it set up with a back to back shooting line, 10,20,30,40,50 one way and 15,25,35,45,55 the other.

Vandalism also can be an issue but that's true with everything in the parks.

Bleive it or not Alabama has at least 3 and plans for a couple more.  They're in each area of the state.

There is a county range where I used to live. It was my favorite hang out.

Believe it or not, we have one that I know of here in central Jersey, I guess they'll allow it up until they are able to get rid of the firearms, but archery is on the up swing here big time, so maybe all those future voters won't like it when they try and take their archery away.

I heard a rumor through a pretty good source that they will be building a 90 meter indoor facility on or near the Clinton WMA property.

There are 47 states (10 countries) teaching NASP-style archery in their schools. More than 12,000 schools by the end of this school year.  The program (NASP) is in its 12th year.  Last year more students (2,055,000) learned NASP archery from their certified teacher than play little league baseball in the United States.

Many of these archery parks are being built near concentrations of NASP schools because 65% of NASP students continue to shoot after learning from their teacher.

We have a range in a public park here also. It is small but very close to me. Out to thirty yards.    MIKE
