So last night I'm up in my bears den just fletching some arrows I already had sealed and crested, was going through while waiting in between the glue drying and making sure my shafts were straight. I picked one up and noticed from about 6" down from the nock it had a little crook in it. Started to apply a little straightening pressure and the shift snapped like a freakin matchstick!! Wow, brand new shaft, not a re finish or anything. Glad it happened at this stage and not into my arm from off  the bow! Sorry for venting just never had that happen before, a little aggravated for putting in that kinda work on only to have it fail Before I even get to use it!

Wow, at least it happened before you used it like you said. That could have come out horrible otherwise.

Yep.  I had that happen once and it wasn't a pretty site. The shaft broke/snapped at the lower end of the fletching at release and fortunately I only received a bruise from the top of my biscep to mid-forearm.  Luckily no wood or splinters went into my arm or hand.

Glad you walked way away from it Doug, wasn't to big a deal just frustrating is all, and an eye opener.

I had the same thing occur with fir arrows and pay very close attention to any flaws . Glad your loss was just the shaft.  I too get a little upset with input of time to creat a nice set of arrows and then things go sideways. Just the down side of making arrows.

You were lucky. I've had them break while straightening raw shafts. Never a finished arrow though.

Very important to spin wood arrows  across thumb nail or just spin to check if still straight or for a flaw before shooting.
 Better  to find cracks flexing to straighten the arrow then breaking at the shot.

Same thing happened to me this week.  Better now than while hunting.
