new bow for Woodrow
« on: March 23, 2013, 12:40:00 AM »
I had to make the subject title rhyme......

Anyway, I got a new bow.  And, here is a photo of it.  Please forgive my poor photography skills.

It is a Sasquatch takedown recurve from Bigfoot Bows, in Douglas Fir Plywood and G10 I-beam riser with Douglas Fir limbs with clear glass on back and belly.  Numbers are 55# at 28", which is about 57# at my draw length of 29.5 inches.

Okay, so how does it look? You ask.
Well, what can I say....this bow is the bomb!  When I first opened the box and put the bow together, I was astonished.  Dang, I thought to myself, this is some nice work.  (FYI, I'm a carpenter as is Kirk, and I know quality workmanship)  The alternating layers of fir create a visual effect that can only be appreciated in person.  And, the limb accents match the G-10 in the riser perfectly.  The color combinations are a perfect accent/contrast.

And, how does it shoot?
OMG!! That's how it shoots.  Dang sweet shooting bow.  And, it spits an arrow out faster than greased lightning!  Did I mention that it is also quiet?  Just a slight thump can be heard when letting loose an arrow.  You can see the green monkey tails in the photo, that's all I've done to silence it so far.  I don't think I need to do anything more.

Compared to my old bow?
Well, the Sasquatch is leaps and bounds better than my two old Ben Pearsons. (One 45#, the other a 50#)  And, when shooting them one after the other, the extra vibration in the Pearson is quite obvious and equals wasted energy and noise.  And, it shoots better than my longbow.  Score is 3 to 1, uneven odds, and the Sasquatch wins.

How hard was it to deal with the bowyer?
Easy!  Kirk and I had a few email conversations, and then I tapped the "pay" button.  He was gracious enough to answer all my stupid questions, and did so in the most wonderful manner.  He knows his chit when it comes to archery.

My back story?
I've been shooting traditional archery for 36 years, and I'm 41 years old.  I've been using Ben Pearson recurves for more than 15 years.  I ordered a custom made longbow a year ago, and quickly realized that I don't care for longbows.

What are the negatives?
My arms/shoulders are worn out from shooting so much.  The bow is too much for my current set of arrows, and I'm going to have to spend some more hard-earned cash on arrows.  The little woman is going to be upset at the monetary expenditure.....dang you Kirk!  LOL

EDIT: I took the photo out.  Mods, we need the IMGUR instructions clarified for photo sizing.

You can edit it in IMGUR... Or re-upload and choose 640x480 as the size....then edit your post.
