Splicing lams??????

I am just wanting to hear ideas or maybe see pics on what you guys use to splice lams together? I am talking about putting two 36" pieces together to make a 72"  I have used my disc grinder but it only goes to 45 degree. It doesn't give me much area to glue. I thought if I could make the angle less it would give me a bigger surface to glue. I am useing a good grade superglue but am haveing fits getting the lams to hold. Seems like I glue them and they hold until I go to put them in the form and the glue joint fails? I know this should be a simple task but  I am haveing a heck of a time getting them to hold. I am clamping a block of wood to my disk grinder as a guide so I think I am keeping them square? The area I am glueing is basically a parralel so they are the same thickness. I have thought about spliceing two different types of woods on a tapered lam but I can't even get the parralels to hold!  Thanks Steve

try a table saw, should be easy to use the fence and come up with a simple jig.

try epoxy .......... I never had any luck with super glue either

I'd put your disk sander at 90 degrees and make a jig that holds the lam on edge at whatever angle you want. If you do both lams at the same time they match up great. I make mine so the surface area is up to an inch then use epoxy. Holds great and the joint almost disappears.

I finally got around to doing another one piece longbow. I have some pics I wanted to share on my method of splicing lams together.I have made a simple jig that I use with my disc sander. It locates in the miter slot of the sander table and has a block set up on plywood at a 10% angle. This will give an area of about 1 in. for a glue surface. To keep the pieces lined up I did a rabbit cut with a jointer on a 2x4 that gives an edge to put the lams against to line them up for gluing. Thick CA glue and a couple of clamps will do the job.

Stagger the ends of the two lams, one on the other, tape them in place, lay them on a grinder or sander at any angle you want and they are both the same angle.  Make sure they are on the grinder square (both edges are getting ground the same.
