Just finished my first back quiver
« on: August 27, 2007, 10:02:00 AM »
I just finished first back quiver.   I felt a little inspired by my upcoming bear hunting trip so I threw in some bear's around the top.    I wish I could have found some bear paw stamps for the bottom.  I guess the wolf paws will have to do.  Next time I need to find some lower gloss leather finish.    I basically used Rob DiStefano's how-to guide and added a few of my own idea's to personalize it.

Looks very nice. What kind of finish and weight leather did you use? Hap

Sure, ask me a hard question.    :D

Here's what I know: I'm not sure on the weight.   It's about 1/8" thick and vegi tanned. It was fairly stiff leather.    The dye was an alchohol based chockolate brown and the sealer was Tandy Super Sheen.  The laces are latigo (for durability).

Basically I went to the tandy Leather store, talked to them for a while, told them what I wanted to do and took their recommendations for products.   Outside of a simple knife sheeth this is the only thing I've made.

I tend to be on the crafty side but I'm just learning so I admit I'm a little clueless as to what I'm doing.       :bigsmyl:

Excellent first attempt!  That looks like 6/7 or maybe 7/8 oz leather.  If you want one that conforms to your back to minimize arrow rattle use 4/5 or even 3/4 oz leather.  The alcohol based stain will stiffen the leather a bit as it dries out some of the natural oils.  But you can give it a good rub down with Neets foot oil before you stain it.  Either way you done good!

Good looking quiver.  The bears along the top of the qiuver look great.  Be proud of yourself.
