Bare shaft question
« on: April 26, 2013, 09:16:00 PM »
Hello everyone this is my first post. Ive learned tons from you all and thank you. But I do have a quick question . I was comparing a bare shaft to a fletched broadhead today and getting a pretty good reading even out to about 30 yards. Problem is I they would be close together until about every fifth round or so then all of a sudden they bare shaft fly crazy and even miss the target entirely sometimes. Then go right back to normal. I figure it's a release issue but not sure. I believe they are spines right and I'm using the same shaft over and over. I'm shooting 2016 legacies 150 grain points 28.5 @around 9gpp at my draw .Haven,t  gotten draw weight measured but it's labeled 60@28 and I'm drawing 26.5

I'd agree that it has to be a form issue.
Just gives you something to work on.
If your broad heads are hitting true forget about tuning.

Just enjoy shooting and working on form.

Be sure you are NOT shooting broadheads on a bare shaft.
They will fly wild and can be VERY dangerous!   :scared:

Also, I do not agree about the broadheads hitting true and being fine. I mean just becasue they hit what you are lookin at, if they are wagging around when they hit this can impede penetration big time. You want an arrow BH or not flying perfect to get the best accuracy and penetration. It does sound like a form issue to me and if you are shooting a lot of arrows it may be just fatigue and lack of concentration. Best of luck! Shawn

It sounds like the bare shaft arrow is shooting fine 4 out of 5 rounds.  Shafts can't make up their own mind what to do (although it seems like it sometimes)The one time you get the wild flight has to be the shooters form.

Things to check:
You are under or over drawing that fifth arrow.
Is it always the fifth round or did I read you wrong. Maybe you are over bowed and just tired/shaky on that fifth round.

Shawn I agree that the broadheads need to be flying straight.
My point was if bare shaft and fletched broad heads were hitting the same spot at that distance 4 out of 5 shots. Bare shaft tuning is pretty well done.

If fletched arrows are flagging etc. then maybe paper tuning could help.

Thanks for everything .I do believe it probably is a form problem. I've been tweaking things lately and been shooting a lot.I guess I'm just being a little OCD since I plan on hunting with my bow this fall. Assuming I feel I'm accurate enough.
