I've owned and shot both.IMHO there both at the top of hill in all categories.Dealing with Big Jim and his workmanship in my opinion can't be beat. His wood options are beyond comprehension. You can't loose with either one.

I also have owned a few MOAB's and think they are pretty hard to beat. But I must admit I've also wanted to try a Buff. Had a Thunderchild but I can't shoot short bows, but the bow was a piece of art work for sure. I would love to know if anyone has ever chronographed a MOAB and a similar weight Buff just to see how the speed measures up.

I watched Big Jim shoot his personal bow thru a chrony last year at the Tenn. Classic, 90#, 910gr arrow if I remember correctly, averaged 191 fps for 3 shots. If all his other weights perform the same, and they should give or take, would be hard to beat that package.

Different bows to me. Buff has more thump on the shot, and more mass weight. Buff is quieter 3 under. Different grips and I like both; buff fills the hand more.  Buff reminds me a lot of a BW PL with Toby grip.

All of my bows are made to order so the grips can be what every you like within the confines of my abilities. Even missed weight bows have the grips built to the customers specs unless they were quite strange. Never know what someone is looking for in a bow off the rack.

Ladams, the buffalo grip doesn't lay back up into your palm as the the grip/riser area is straighter then the TC.

Folks, Please don't make this into a one bow vs another.

I own both.....two totally different designs....and I use mine for two totally different applications....both are GREAT bows...more later.

I don't have as much time behind my ONE Big Jim Thunder Child than I do any of my FOUR MOABS.

Both have these similar characteristics.....

Quiet, no hand shot, VERY point able, well crafted and finished, shoot where they look, great cast, and grips that fit the design.  I have not chronoed the Big Jim, and it really doesn't matter.....its probably real close to the MOAB by what I can 'tell' by shooting it.  I NEED TO LET IT BE KNOWN....NEITHER have CARBON, not a fan of carbon...all are boo lamed with dressed up veneers.

Bows to me are like Broadheads,...TOOLS, and I use my MOABS in certain scenario....and now use my SHORTER Thunder Child in others(That's why I bought it)...tight stands, small blinds, thicket stalks...thicket recovery's....yes, been known to shot an animal with one bow and track it with another....don't that many times....i'e Cade's recent hunt.

BOTH are primo....and both guys are a gem to work with....but they are NOT both the same bow design.....so they are hard to compare with all having positives.

There....hope that helps.   I suggest buying one from Jim and also buying one from Jim.     :D      :D      :D

Are we comparing the Buffalo or the Thunderchild to the Moab?  Possibly the Thunderstick Mag would be a more proper comparison to the Thunderchild.

Gotta agree with Terry.  Very different designs.  Have one of each.  Both great bows, but I find myself using the shorter thunderchild because I frequently am hunting in potentially tight cover, blinds, stands, etc.

Never had the pleasure of shooting a MOAB . but I have shot big Jim's thunder child and his buffalo longbow one and two piece. And I love the one piece buffalo so much I have one ordered in black and white ebony and iron wood riser all horned up. Can't wait . the big guy said the end of June or before . looking forward to it. But with big Jim's busy schedule with all the shows he is doing one every weekend and he was talking pigs again when we talked . it could be months yet. Lol . each day feels like a month.
