In effort to share some ideas with everyone.
I found this spot last fall too late to make it work. But kept it in mind all winter. I had a stand in a fenceline about 300 yds from here and saw a nice Mulie Buck come out of the little patch 3 different times. Not every time I sat there as Mulies around here are very unpredictable.
This morning I went out and built this on a ridge just above where he lays. I did it in about a half hour just cutting up dead fall and leaning it up against an existing tree. (Landowner permission of course.)
I have about a 10 min walk from where I park to the hide, and its easy to come up the hill and sneak to it as its open pasture with small brush patches.
Mule Deer sometimes dish out a cool spot where they go to a lot if not disturbed. The bed is about 25 feet below my hide. I cleared out all the brush for the arrow to fly thru. Its about a 45 degree angle shot. The shooting hole is just above the bigger short log to the right of center. It looks small from this angle but there is plenty of room. (I'm right handed.)
I also hung a piece of flagging ribbon directly over the bed so I can see where it is as I come over the ridge and check wind direction before I commit.
I'm planning to go there every time I'm out there in the middle of the day and hope to catch him. :D This won't interfere with morning or eve hunts.
I've got a few more stands to move and in a few weeks when it greens up more I'll mow some stalking trails in my Moose spots.
Spring is very late up here, but now is the time to get ready for fall!
You southern boys, Never mind!
Ok back to roto-tilling the garden.
