Go Lite Shangri-La tents--who uses one?
« on: May 21, 2013, 09:44:00 PM »
The question in my topic title says it all.  I have been looking at those and really like the looks of that tent design.  Looks simple and easy to put up.

Thanks, Dave   :wavey:

I got one last year - have only used it a few times, but I've got to tell ya' - I'm impressed!
Easy set up, lots of room in a light weight package.  I haven't had it in any serious weather myself, but from reports of others it shines there as well.

I had a 4 for a while and my buddy DanAdair who posts on here has probably spent more nights in his 4 then anyone alive.  It's a good shelter for the weight and price.  I got aggravated with the pole in the middle which always seemed in the way and the fact it was about 6" too short for me to stand up in.  With that said you have to spend a bunch more to get more then the sl series.  I o believe I heard they are discontinuing the sl series so yoi might want yo act fast if going that way.

I have used a GL3 a few times. 1.4lbs fly and pole. It is big enough to sit up and cook in and a ton of gear room with one guy. 2 guys it is still fine but gets a little tighter.

For one guy and gear the GL3 is pretty slick.

I have had one for about 9 years.   I really like it and trust it.  So easy to set up, take down, maintain, pack, carry.  Performs awesome in bad weather.  Like any piece of gear, familiarity with your equipment is key.  I would le to get the bigger size next.

Whip & I both picked up the Shangri-La 5 Tent last year.  I have a small Cablas cot that fits in one half of the tent.  It is a great/roomy one man tent for me.

Ordered and received a SL5 3 weeks ago, and it went up quick and easy and I like all the room in this light weight package.  Think I'm going to carry this as my 1 man tent as others have mentioned. Will need to purchase extra stakes though.
