Rick Welch School- Arrows
« on: May 23, 2013, 02:33:00 PM »
I'm planning to attend Rick's shooting school in June and wondering what arrow shafting Rick will use?

I build my own arrows and have used all species of wood, aluminum, fiberglass, and Grizzly Stik shafting.  I typically use and prefer Surewood shafting but I'm not opposed to buying and using some carbon for the shooting school.

Has anyone ever attended the school using their own wooden arrows?

ErikT,
I went through Rick's class a couple years ago and used tapered cedar shafts. I had them flying well to start and had also fletched them so the feather was just touching my nose at full draw. Rick watched them fly and said I was good to go.
The only problem I had at the class was I pulled off 3-4 field tips that had been put on with hot mely glue. Rick glued them on with 5 minute epoxy and they worked fine.
If you have seen his last dvd (The Accuracy Factory) I'm the guy shooting the self bow. If I remember right I think Rick told me I was the 2nd person to use a self bow for one of his classes.
The best money I have ever spent on anything archery for sure.

Whatever arrows you bring to the class are not really significant.  Rick personally used to use Gold Tips, and now he uses VAPs, and he will be happy to convert you over from whatever you're currently using, but only if you're interested in changing.  Rick teaches people who use all types of bows and arrows.  The only recommendation would be to bring a bow that you feel comfortable shooting a hundred shots a day from.  All your shots in the class will be from about 10-25 yards, unless you have some particular reason for wanting to shoot a longer shot.

You're going to like Rick, and you will come home a learned man.
I want to go back.
Might take my grandson...he's 15 and would love it.
