Why not get some Douglas Fir from Surewood?

3RA has some decent POC.  I can't remember the name of the outfit that took over RRA.  I can't recommend anything from Rose City.

Braveheart Archery and Wilderness Arrows carry Surewood fir - good stuff.

Is there a big difference in mass weight between p.o.c. and doug fir?

Both can vary quite a bit, with fir avaraging about 10-15% more than POC.  Most suppliers will try to get the weight range you want.

In general, Doug fir will run 10%-20% heavier at a given spine.  However, it does vary, and it is possible to get them in the same weight range of some POCs.  For example, mid-weight cedars will weigh about the same as light Doug firs.  Medium weight Doug firs will weigh about what heavy POCs would weigh.  Specify the physical weight you want from your supplier.

Oops. I posted just as Fletcher did.  Cool. We're both saying the same thing.

http://surewoodshafts.com/weight.html

This link is to Surewood's "Mass Weight" page on their website. It will give you a range of weights per spine group. There are lighter and heavier for each group. This just gives you a pretty good idea of the range for most shafts within that spine group. Hope this is helpful.

Surewood's douglas fir is a beautiful wood to make arrows out of. It is durable, like mentioned, it is easy to straighten and have it stay straight and it looks great stained and painted! I can put a 10" back taper from 11/32" down to 5/16" on them if this interests you too.

Rogue River was renamed Wapiti Archery and they've increased their output of shafts.  They sell poc and douglas fir.  They continue to produce high quality shafts with no runouts.

I have some sure wood arrows and there very nice. Thought I would try poc. I'm not really sure of the difference between the two types. I read that poc is hard to get good quality shaft any more. Burt
